January 2006I initially started work on December the 5th with an induction week at Keighley Voluntary Services-we did some team building exercises and lots and lots of form filling. The following week, when I officially started at Sure Start ('The Rainbow Children's Centre, Guardhouse' is its full title), I worked with a midwife on pre-birth visits, a family support worker (who helps families overcome issues) and I helped in the playgroup for the 2-5 year olds. I started a 7-week course on how to deliver smoking cessation advice, held at the Rainbow Centre. This meant I would have the basic knowledge to support people who were trying to quit smoking and also I would be able to 'signpost' them to where they could get further advice and help. I also make home visits with the speech therapist worker and new birth home visits, when babies are registered with Sure Start (as long as they live in the Sure Start area) |
