August 2006

This month I've been interpreting for people who have been referred for safety equipment. I've followed this up by visiting them at home while the 'Grassroots' representative has fitted the safety equipment.

On the 10 the August I supported a Healthy Cook and Eat session held at Oakbank School. We made Indian vegetable curry, with 12 children, ages 8-12 years and they really enjoyed it. A reporter from the Keighley News came and there was a lovely picture of the children (I absolutely didn't want to be in it!!!!) and a article about the event in the paper the following week.

This month I've also concentrated on the summer activities for young people, held at Whinfield Centre, which all the Health Apprentices had some responsibilities for preparing. The activities Flora, Aneesa and myself organised on our day (18.8.06) were:
Disco- Limbo dancing.
Henna on hands.
Colouring competitions.
Fruit tasting.
Glass painting.
Smoothie making.
Under 8's had to accompanied and a good day was had by all of the 64 children who attended.

(I'm also placed new information on the Sure Start information stand, for the celebration day on the 25th August)

I've also been short listed for the Health Trainers course, which is going to be carried out in October for 2 full days each week for 8 weeks. In partnership with the NHS, this training gives you the knowledge to support people who want to change to a healthier lifestyle.
