February 2006I have become more involved in all of the activity classes. I have got to know the people who use these classes much better and have developed good relationships with them. I have found out why they attend the classes. Some of the people have had a trigger of some sort (like a heart attack) so they are now doing their best to keep fit and prevent themselves from suffering from the same problem in the future. At Tic Tac (Teenage Information Centre and Teenage Advice Centre) I had the chance to sit in on a few of the consultations, which was good, as I got to learn more about what Tic Tac offers. I realised that this is a very good information centre for young people, as they can and talk to a nurse (male or female) in a separate room. They can discuss any problems they're having, which can relate to their health or personal problems. Everything is confidential so the young people are sure nothing their say will be passed back to their parents. With the Health of Men team, I got to learn how to measure people's blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels and what kind of support you need to offer people when they have poor reading skills. |
