August 2006

This month I have been involved in a lot of activities including
  • Walking with a variety of groups
  • Be-active
  • Whinfield community event
Walking
There was a group set up as a trial, for people who wanted to get involved, within the Highfield area of Keighley. Only women turned up for theses walks, a lot of whom had not been involved in much exercise, as they been busy with other issues. So this was a chance for them to get out and get fitter. The women really enjoyed the walks and wanted the group to carry on going.

Be-active
This was an event, which was set up for children, as part of a summer scheme. The children were aged from about 5-10. The Be-active challenge is an indoor mini-circuit of physical activities like short sprints, standing long jump and running between the rungs of a rope ladder. The children enjoyed it as they were doing something different every 2-3 minutes - they enjoyed the variety over the 2 hours of the activity.

Whinfield community event
This was event, which all of the Health Apprentices had been planning for a couple of months. The Apprentices had put in a lot of hard work into the preparation and it really paid off. The event was very successful as we had about 140 young people who turned up to a least 1 of the 6 sessions.
Some of the activities that were on offer were
  • Face painting
  • Bracelet making
  • Fruit art
  • Reflexology
  • Nail art
  • Henna
The parents enjoyed the event, as it was a good way of keeping the children busy.
