November 2006This month I have stared shadowing some new sessions, one of which was at "Fitness First" in Keighley. These were family gym sessions, when the whole family can come and do some exercises together. The children particularly enjoy the games, which are used as the warm up exercises. So families are enjoying the benefits of spending time together as well as exercising together. Along with Nasreen, the Apprentice from Keighley Voluntary Services, I went to support a girls youth club at the Highfield Community Centre, where a group of young mainly Asian girls, come and get involved in a variety of activities, which they choose. Some of the girls wanted to play football and others wanted to do some cooking so we decided we would do a different activity each week, as this would keep the girls interested. I also shadowed an Oral Health session at St Andrews School in Keighley. In this session my colleague talked to the children about oral hygiene and the advantages of brushing your teeth and disadvantages of not brushing your teeth. The children enjoyed learning about this and were very keen to learn more about the teeth. Most the children knew the names of all the teeth and enjoyed the quiz at the end of the session. |
