December 2006
This month I have been carrying on with some of the activities from last month such as :-
Family Fun at Fitness First
Cardiac rehabilitation
Anti-bullying
Girls Youth club
Seated exercise classes
Anti-bullying session - These are sessions where the anti-bullying co-ordinator (ABC) talks to school children about bullying and how it can effect them. After one of the sessions he was asked to talk to a girl, who we were told was being bullied but who might also be a bully herself. So the ABC had a talk with her and I got a chance to see a different side to his work, which was how to deal directly with an individual bully or a victim. The girl was asked if she was being bullied but she said no and also said she was not a bully. The ABC tried to make her feel relaxed and asked if she wanted a drink. He told her that if she was bullying someone or was being bullied, he would try his best to stop this and make her enjoy both her home and school life. But the girl just did not want to talk so he decided to call it a day and told her he would like to talk to her at another time during the week. This was so he could build a relationship with her and so she could trust him enough that she would tell him what is happening over time.
Seated exercise classes - I have only been to a couple of these sessions. The participants have some kind of problem, which can restrict their movement, like a hip replacement so they do their exercises sitting down in a chair. They are also shown alternative ways of doing the same exercise, so everyone is able to join in.
The group is a small but very friendly group, which meets once a week.
