January 2006

I undertook a course in January, provided to me as an individual by the health inspector in Department of Environmental Services of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. Environmental Services has been awarded funding to provide training to individuals on how to deliver informative talks regarding healthy living, food hygiene and keeping yourself clean. It involved

Clean as a baby's bottom: How to keep germs away from you and your baby?
Safe Food Better Business (Food Standards Agency)

After being trained I held a talk with the Women and Toddlers group on Wednesday 18 January and did a display and handed out leaflets in Urdu and Bengali, as these are the two intended audiences main language. The response was superb and it gave me the encouragement to do this again in the future.

I also attended the 'Improving you Health' conference at the Carlisle Business Centre along with the other Health Apprentices, where there were health fair information stalls and workshops on:
Issues affecting disabled people
Transport facilities by Metro
Healthy Living by Bradford environment project and arts & leisure
Bradford MDC, Smoking Cessation
Bradford Health Development Partnership

I also attended a meeting to start up a toy library at the Sangat Centre in partnership with Eastwood Primary School. This will also involve one of the Apprentices based at Keighley Voluntary Services
