February 2006

February was another month for some core self-developing training. All the health apprentices attended a three-week Self Care course, provided by Bradford Health Partnerships, working in conjunction with Leeds Metropolitan University. It was held at Shipley Town Hall and Keighley Furniture Project. I found this course very helpful because we learnt a lot about self care e.g.
Understanding what is health
How to develop healthier attitudes towards your health
Key principles of self care
Self care resources and support
Ways to change health behaviours and to promote self care
Social aspects of well being e.g. self esteem and self-confidence
Psychological aspects of health and well-being focused mainly on self care and stress
Physical aspect of well-being particularly healthy eating

I analysed the current situation at the Sangat Centre and drew some conclusions, which I could work and develop on. These are:
Need for a youth activities
Health related activities, to attract the younger generation to the Sangat Centre and also to promote healthy living.

Need for activities for women
Social club and outings for women should be organised for a better social life and to promote healthy lifestyle.
