June 2006

The funding application by Time Out Youth Club for Bradford Council's community chest was successful, which meant that we could go ahead with the community event. The reason why I chose 1st of June for this event was because of it being during the children's Spring bank holiday, which meant that parents could come along with their children. This was the main aim of the project - to help bring about greater community cohesion by bringing different people from different backgrounds, genders and ages together.

The event was very well attended, with more than 400 people coming, which was twice as many as expected. I learnt how to market the project, organise and, most of all, work together as a team.

There had always been enquiries at Sangat about sewing classes, from women asking all the time if we are running any classes or not. So this became another project for me. I got together with Keighley Healthy Living Network, and with their help and support, we organised a sewing class for Sangat and KHLN, which is running successfully.

The funding applications to Lankley Chase, the Bradford Play scheme and Local Network Fund have been successful, which means we can now cater for the youth group and also run a summer scheme, which will take place in July and August.
