About AneesaI am Aneesa Hussain, a graduate from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BA Hons degree in Business Information Management. While studying I developed an interest in the voluntary sector and decided to undertake my major final year project (dissertation) based on a voluntary organisation based locally in Keighley, called Keighley Healthy Living Network (KHLN). After researching this particular sector, I discovered that it is so challenging and rewarding to be able to work with the local community.Having done some voluntary work with some of the local community and voluntary groups I knew what I wanted to do for sure, which was working for the community. When I heard about the project for the health apprentices, I knew that this could be my stepping stone to success within the voluntary sector. Having a little bit of knowledge through the research I undertook for my university project, by volunteering at Sangat Centre in Keighley as well as helping Fazeela (a Community Development Worker) at KHLN, I decided to apply for the post and was sure I had the personal attributes to suit the role. I was then appointed as a Health Apprentice at The Sangat Centre. As part of the job description my aims are to develop healthy lifestyles and eating within the elderly, mother and toddler group and the girl's and boy's study groups. My goals are:
These aims can be achieved by organising events and introducing new projects such as:
All of these projects will involve working in partnership with co-workers and other community groups. This experience will lead me to have a better future in the voluntary sector and hopefully I will make a difference in people's lives by making it healthier to live. |
