August 2006

This month we had a major Health Apprentice community event, that all the Health Apprentices took part in and supported. It was based at Keighley's Whinfield Centre, on the Braithwaite and Guardhouse estate. The event was run for 3 days a week, on two consecutive weeks. It was an open event, so that both parents and children could come but children under eight had to be supervised by an adult.
Each of the Apprentices, in teams, had to organise the activities on one of the days -they had to be in charge of their day, as they had to decide what activities they would like and then organise and sort them out. A range of activities were planned, so that all age ranges could take part.

We had activities such as
  • Healthy fruit and vegetable eating (a certificate was given at the end saying each child has had his/her fruit and vegetables).
  • Smoothie making
  • Thai boxing
  • Go-karting
  • Games of pool and air hockey
  • Colouring competitions
  • Henna
  • Bracelet making with beads
  • Disco
  • and much more
I have enjoyed taking part in this event, both before and during it. Working together as a team and working with all age groups has been really good. I have enjoyed the atmosphere working with the entire Health Apprentice team, as we don't often get to work together.
