September 2006This month I was involved in two weeks of practical activities and two weeks of office based work. I was supporting a two-week scheme called Work Safe, which was at Belle Vue Barracks off Manningham Lane in Bradford. This scheme runs once a year every year. There were six practical scenarios set up at the Territorial Army barracks which showed children how to escape from a bedroom fire, spot the dangers/hazards in the kitchen, how to deal with a gas leak, what to do if someone was been bullied, how to save someone's life if they were drowning and lastly avoiding hazards on a building site. The two-week scheme went really well, with the children enjoying themselves, while learning really important things about keeping safe. The children were put into one of six groups and went to each of the scenario stations for about 12 minutes. I attended all of the sessions, throughout the two weeks, that the school children from Keighley went to. I really enjoyed myself and learnt a lot of really useful stuff. The people who were running and supporting this scheme were really nice and easy to get along with and we all worked as a team. A total of 1,240 children took part, who were all aged between nine and eleven, and were from 31 different schools in the Bradford District. Details of the success of the scheme were featured in the Telegraph and Argus newspaper. Also this month, I have been creating some duplicate poster packs for the upcoming Resources Road Show on November 7th. I had six packs to create, which were Walking, Be Active for Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils (aged 11-16), Work Place, Arthie Beats, Parents Advice and Cycling. This meant there was lots of cutting, laminating and sticking labels, plus adding new information and designing the contents page for each pack. I have been sorting out all the packs and checking to see if each of the duplicate packs contained all of the same information as the originals. As I did this I was writing down the details of the sheets, so I could use this to complete the content page at a later time. As I mentioned earlier, these packs were for the forthcoming Road Show that the Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust are holding and are resources that the public can use. |
