October 2006

I had been to the Highfield Centre in Keighley, to attend a Cardiac Rehab session with a colleague from the PCT. We had to explain to them their options for sessions that are running in their community for their 'level of need', after they have finished with their cardiac classes. (For those who are not aware what Cardiac Rehab is:- this is an exercise class for those people that who have suffered from cardiac problems, i.e. often heart attacks but there can be other types of heart patient.)

I have spent most of my time in the office. I have been putting together the poster packs and inputting data for the Active Directory.
I have now completed 4 out of the 6 poster packs. The Active directory is an on-going Project, which myself and a colleague have been working on for a few months. We find out about all the physical sessions and activities that are already running in the community and we put all this information on to a new website, which will be soon be available to the public. It has been a struggle at times to put all the information in accurately and then double checking it, but now I have got the hang of this. It only takes me about 5 minutes to note everything down and move on to the next one.

I have also attended a one-day development session on Adult Protection, which was held in Bradford. It was really good. We worked as a team and put together all of our ideas about what people think about older adults and who we think they should be protected from. We all received a book of handouts and did some team work tasks.
I have learnt about when older people have been treated badly, just because they were old. Some of the stories I heard were very upsetting, as you don't think that such things could happen to anyone, let alone someone who is extremely vulnerable.
