January 2007

This month I have been working on the move of our 'Keighley Young Mums Group' to the Keighley Healthy Living Network building on Scott Street, just behind the library.
The staff have been meeting, at the new venue, on a regular basis and discussing the work that needs to be done, to make the move successful and the room as pleasant and inviting as possible. The room is currently used almost everyday by other community groups and is in a perfect location close to the town centre. All that is needed is a woman's touch and a lick of paint!!!!!

The staff at Sure Start, together with the Breast-feeding peer supporters, have decided that it would be a good idea to also move the Baby Café, which will move after the Young Mums Group is set up. To link with this, I have designed the new brochure for the breast-feeding peer supporters. This will give mums-to-be and new mums, the help needed in order to breast-feed successfully.

A colleague and I, have been asked to do a talk at Holy Family School to a group of 13 yr old pupils on teenage pregnancy, the advantages and disadvantages of being a teenage parent, negative and positive approaches to discipline and good and bad parenting. I have put together a plan, with lots of group involvement and we are also showing a video about teenage pregnancy.
We are also planning a 5-a-day healthy eating session for a parenting group at the Low Fold Family centre, where we will be making smoothies, playing fruit & veg bingo and having tasting sessions.
