February 2007

The Holy Family School talks went really well. The pupils enjoyed watching the teen parent video and had lots of comments to make afterwards. The group-work on parenting and discipline, also went well and they had lots of views, stories and ideas.
I really enjoyed doing the sessions and would love to be asked to do them again.
I spoke to some of the pupil's parents and was told they enjoyed us being there and that their children picked up lots of information during the sessions.
The 5-a-day healthy eating session for the parenting group also went really well. They enjoyed playing bingo and they learnt more about the different types of fruit and veg available. We also discussed the seasonal fruits and tastes.
We made banana & strawberry milkshake smoothie and a mixed fruit smoothie. The small children particularly enjoyed the milkshake smoothie. As a bonus, all the parents went home with goody bag that we had put together.

Been busy doing what women do best. SHOPPING!!
I have been buying furniture and equipment for our the 'Keighley Young Mums Group'. I have managed to find a sofa, a storage cabinet for toys and other things needed to make the room comfortable and fully equipped. Everything was purchased from our local office outlet and Keighley Furniture Project, another ERDF funded project.
We have now moved the group to the new venue and they are looking forward to getting the room finished and getting involved with planning the new activities.

I attended and helped out at the Keighley Market Consultation event on the 20th February at Victoria Hall. I worked with a group of elderly people and we looked at the different market plans and discussed which plan they preferred and why.

We are now coming to the end of the Apprenticeship and I have enjoyed every moment but I feel I still have lots of work still left to do so I am looking at ways to carry on with the groups I am currently involved with, even if it involves some part time voluntary work.
