September 2006

This month I have been working on the Keighley Town Centre Breastfeeding Campaign. I spoke to mothers who have breastfed in the past and they all said that finding somewhere to breast feed in the town centre was almost impossible.
Keighley town centre has no breastfeeding facilities, so we needed to target the cafes and other eating-places.
Myself and other breastfeeding peer support councillors have visited numerous cafes and displayed the "Breastfeeding Welcome" sticker in their windows. I will work with other peer support councillors to complete all the advertising for breastfeeding support and the Baby Café; this will also include the list of cafes and restaurants where breastfeeding is welcome.
The Café Incontro came top as the most baby friendly and the best place to breastfeed because of the comfortable seating area.
An article on our campaign was featured in the Keighley News on the 28th September.
