December 2006

I have received a letter from Are Committee Community Chest and we were successful with my funding application. I have received £150.00 to pay for the breastfeeding peer supporters T shirts.
We also now have a 'breastfeeding' mobile phone, which the peer supporters will hold for a week at a time so that mums experiencing problems can contact someone straight away. I am presently working on a rota for the mobile.
My breastfeeding support leaflet is almost finished and looking good. This will then need to be approved by the Infant Feeding Advisor at Airedale Hospital, before it goes out to the public.

I have been helping the Speech & Language Therapy University Students by answering questions that the therapist will ask a parent with a small child. I based the questions on my own son who is 18 month old and was also asked to feed back on the questions, so that they could be made easier to understand by the mothers.
I also attended a session on Bilingual Communication. This helped me a great deal as a mother raising a bilingual son and also when working with other mothers who speak two languages at home.

We have now found a room available for the Keighley Young Mums Tots & Bumps group. This is very exciting, as we have been looking for new premises to move our existing group to, for a long time now.
The group will have to move to a Tuesday afternoon but the mums that have attended the group already are happy with this and they are also excited with the move.
We will now work together with the young mums to get the group moved and make it a great success.
