February 2006One of the things I do in my role as a Health Apprentice, is help to run the BFIT Community Café (The Scott Street Sensation), which is based in the Keighley Healthy Living Network Building in Keighley. At the moment we are open from 11 am -3 pm on Fridays. On our menu each week, we have a homemade soup (e.g. leek and potato / winter vegetable) and usually a choice of at least 2 main courses, one of which is vegetarian. Examples of main courses are Spicy Moroccan casserole with cous cous or casserole with sausages or parsnip patties. Home made puddings such as fruit salad and carrot cake are available as well. We also serve a variety of light snacks such as egg and beans on toast and every week we have jacket potatoes with various fillings. All our food and drinks are Fair Trade, organic and/or locally produced. Most of the fruit and vegetables are bought from the local produce shop, which is based next door to us. And of course, all our food is freshly made on the premises. To start with we were only getting around 10 customers, but as the weeks have progressed, we now have more than 25 customers, a lot of them being regulars. We have a small, separate seated area where people are able to wait until a table is available for them. The café is proving to be very popular. |
