May 2006

This month I'm going to tell you about a number of things I have been up to this month.
Firstly, at the beginning of May, there was an event called Distraction Burglary at the 60+ Luncheon Club at the Whinfield Centre, Braithwaite. A small theatre company came to do some scenes on the dos' and don'ts of using your door chain. I thought they were fantastic, as all the members of the company were retired. I thought they were very funny and entertaining and I thought they got the message across very well. You should always use your door chain!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the community café that was based in Keighley Healthy Living Network (KHLN) in Keighley town centre has now moved to the Rainbow Centre (Sure Start) Keighley, so I am no longer involved in that project. So instead on a Friday, I helped B-Fit (the group running the community café) in another way. Their local food produce shop (that was also based in the KHLN building) has also moved and it now has its own premises on North Street in Keighley. So for a couple of weeks I helped out and really enjoyed myself, although I did feel as though I was "playing at shop keepers". I now know how to work their till, weighing scales and their credit card machines.
I have also passed Level 1 on the Cook and Eat course I am doing and am now half way through level 2.

I am also very busy planning for the various summer schemes and events, which I am going to be involved in during the school holidays. These include a 2 week summer scheme with KHLN for girls and boys aged 8-12, Cook and Eat sessions at Oakbank school in Keighley and a 2 week event at Whinfield Community Association in August (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays p.m. each week).
