February 2007The Management Committee at Braithwaite People's Association have been discussing trying to find funding to keep me on at the end of the Health Apprentice Project and they have found some. I will be staying on but I would have a new job description, although I would still be mainly working in the community café. So I don't have to worry about looking elsewhere for another job. I just hope all the other Health Apprentices can also find jobs they really want. Recently, the café has got even busier, which is great for the Centre and although I am sometimes rushed off my feet, I can't complain. I wouldn't be here nor have a job to look forward to if the café hadn't been as successful. I also want to mention the Fruit and Vegetable shop that is running at the Keith Thompson Centre (KTC). It has been open for about a month and has been advertised using leaflets, there was an article in the Keighley News but the people on the estate also know about it by word of mouth. New people are coming into the centre all the time but some of our established café customers are now ending up buying fruit and vegetables as well. Even young people, coming in for their breakfasts and to play pool at the weekends, will also buy fruit. Lots of the staff at KTC now buy more fruit and vegetables, as it is so much easier to get it now, rather than having to trail into town. All the groups who use the centre are benefiting-the Mother and Toddlers and Older Persons group in particular. |
