This month I did a course on Basic Food Health and Hygiene, which is one of the courses I really wanted to do, as I work in the café at Keith Thompson Centre (KTC). When hearing about the course I was excited but nervous at the same time. I had to go down to Keighley College and sign a form to do the course. We had to go to the college on 30th May to revise and the 31st to do the test. When I arrived at Keighley College with Cherita, who is the other Health Apprentice at KTC, we discussed how nervous we were. When we went to the classroom and sat down with the people that were there, we began to settle a bit better.

The trainer was really nice and started by taking us through the different parts of the course and explained about germs, bugs, diseases and other topics. Then we got into groups of two and had these cards and had to arrange them into groups, which we did successfully. We also watched a video on what, and what not to do, in a café. Then later on she asked us all different questions and at the end of the day she explained that we would be doing a test the next day.

When I was going to the college to do my test I got really nervous about it as it's been a long time since I've done a test and when I arrived at the classroom at least I wasn't the only one!!!!!!!!!! The trainer asked us if we wanted to do the test now or ask questions and revise so we all asked if we could revise then and do our test later. It didn't take long to do but afterwards I felt as if I didn't pass for some reason and felt I had let myself down. She told us all that if we passed we would get a certificate sent to us.

I knew which day the certificates were due to be sent out and a few days before I got a phone call from our trainer, who told me the result. (she knew I was nervous- REALLY NERVOUS!!!!!) After the phone call, I ran out to my husband and told him I passed and then I rang my supervisor at KTC and she congratulated me. When I got my certificate I was really excited jumping around -my husband must have thought I was mad!!!! Now I have the Food Health and Hygiene certificate and this is the main one I wanted.
