December 2006

We have had another really busy month with:-
  • Tuesday night Pensioner's Bingo
  • Parent and Toddler group
  • Buffets to prepare
  • Innit Mega youth group
  • Kids Disco and Parent and toddler group disco (along with their older children)
  • Friday luncheon club
We have prepared 7 buffets altogether-this is all extra work on top of our normal activities but, if it is an "outside" group we are catering for, it does bring in extra revenue for the centre.

For the kids disco, we did a little buffet and got the toddlers to sit down and eat while disco music was still playing. When the toddlers finished, we did pass the parcel and they had a little dance till they heard bells ringing and I told them that Santa was coming. We all had to sit down and then Santa arrived and sat on his chair. One by one, each child's name was called out and they were handed a present. It was great day and the look on some of the toddler's faces as they got their presents was great.

We repeated the disco the next day, from 5pm till 9pm, for the Mother and Toddler group plus older children they had. My husband did the disco as he has his own equipment. He was very good and he got most of the children on the floor dancing. There were a few sweaty kids as they were dancing most of the night. We then got the food ready and when they finished I was teaching the kids to dance to the music, which was great as more kids came to dance. At the end of the night, I was totally worn out but had really enjoyed myself. The last treat for the children was that we had given each of them a treat bag to take home.

On the last Friday night of Innit Mega group, we took 16 kids bowling, as a treat for Christmas. It was really busy that night but the kids really enjoyed themselves and the look on their faces when they had half a strike or full strike was lovely. The only problem was that half way through, we had a meal and it was disgusting. They didn't even ask if anyone was a vegetarian- they just brought the food and drinks out. After the meal the kids had another round of bowling. It was a good night apart from that but the only thing which was disappointing for me was that I couldn't have a go at bowling, as it was for Innit Mega members only.

For Tuesday 19th December, I did a full days work plus more, as I had to run the café (which was incredibly busy with the children on holiday) get the buffet prepared for the pensioner's bingo and then spend the evening at the bingo. Luckily, we only had to get the sandwiches and the salad ready, as we had everything else done previously. At 3pm I went home, to see my children, and at 4pm I set off back to finish the buffet. There was a lot of food (I hope!) for the pensioners. By 7pm we had finished everything just in the nick of time, as the pensioners started to turn up. I was glad to get home and rest after a hard days work.
