March 2006Youth groupsI have continued my work with the 13-19 year olds at both Hainworth and the Bangladeshi Community Association. I have helped the young people learn more about healthy eating and have taught them how to cook some healthy foods. It has been very rewarding because the guys and the girls, both at Hainworth and B.C.A., show increased interest in learning how to cook. Over 50's I have still been providing my support to the senior residents of Hainworth Community to run the Over 50's club. This month I have taken more responsibility in many of the sessions, as a colleague has been away on a training course. The group is now doing a 'Reminiscences Project' for 5 weeks with the Whinfield Over 50's group (based at the Whinfield Centre, Braithwaite), which runs on the same day. Neighbourhood Action Planning groups (NAPs) The NAPs have come to the end of their financial year, so there is not as much happening at the moment. A celebratory event was held on the 14th March 2006, to bring together all 5 of the Keighley NAP groups, to share their experiences and to highlight the improvements they have brought to their own neighbourhoods. Red Card Theatre Company The Community Development team decided to put on community cohesion event. We organised a play to promote a positive message against racism and discrimination. The play was held on the 27th March at the Keighley Disabled People's Centre. On the day we had a very good turn out of people, with a good age range and from all the different areas of Keighley. We aimed the play at people over 15, because of the language used and content of the play. It inspired people to become positive advocates against anti-racist attitudes and discrimination. Training done this month Legal structures within voluntary organisations First Aid Training to do next month Child Protection 'Learning Disability' Awareness Introduction to Youth and Community work. |
