August 2006

Youth groups
The Hainworth Wood Youth Group have been doing summer scheme activities, aimed at 8-19 year olds. It has been on Wednesdays and Fridays since the last week of July and it is running through until the end of August. They have been doing various different activities and team building exercises. The youth group for the 13-19 years old is also still running on a Thursday night.
The group at The Bangladeshi Community Centre (BCC) have had a summer scheme from the 7th August until 18th August, doing various activities and day trips. They joined with other youth groups from around Keighley to take part in this.
The summer schemes have been a great success with around 40 to 45 people every day at the BCC events and about 30 to 35 people at the Hainworth Wood activities.

Over 50's
We have had our usual regular attendees at the Over 50's Luncheon Club at Hainworth Wood this month but we did close for the last two weeks of August, due to people going on holiday. The Bracken Bank six-week Luncheon Club trial has come to an end but we are looking to start it up again in September, as it was so successful and the senior citizens wanted something going on in their own area.

Neighbourhood Action Planning (NAPs)
This month we have still been doing the questionnaires in all five NAP areas. This will decide how much money will be spent in each area to tackle the concerns that the residents have identified and prioritised. E.g if people want a certain amount of the money to be spent on activities for young people, then that is where the money will be spent.

Others
I have also been involved in organising and running the Whinfield Community event, for young people, with the rest of the Apprentices. It took place from the 14th to 25th August on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It was very successful, with over 140 young people attending at least one of the 6 sessions.

As you can see I have been concentrating on the summer schemes, this month, so August has gone down as one of my busiest months yet.
