November 2006

Youth groups
The 13-19 year olds group at B.C.A have started to meet again on a Thursday evening. They are doing the second part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, which is focusing on the Service organisations. They are looking into the Police Service for up to eight weeks but they are still doing other activities, such as cook and eat. The 13-19 year olds at Hainworth Wood are still meeting on Thursday on a regular basis. They are also doing various activities that they have suggested, such as 'D J ing', healthy eating cook and eat sessions, dance and quiz nights. The 8-12 years old group at B.C.A has resumed after a short Ramadan breaks. The group have been planning on what projects and activities that they want to do next.

Over 50's
The Hainworth Wood over 50's group are still meeting on regular basis. There are currently 10-15 members each week. Normally, they have a massage but the lady who provides it, is now on 3 weeks annual leave. As I mentioned last month, they do arm chair exercises and then quizzes, followed by healthy eating lunch. This month they have been doing a two-week reminiscences project with Victoria Primary School and also took part in the KEIG fun day, which took place earlier this month.

Neighbourhood Action Planning (NAPs)
This month it was decision day on the 25th November, for all the eight NAP areas in Keighley. This was the Participatory Budget voting day-when local residents would decide on what projects they wanted for their neighbourhood. There were a total of 56 projects, divided into the morning and afternoon sessions. The projects were also split by area. In the morning we had people from Hainworth Wood, Parkwood, Branshaw/Fell Lane and Bracken Bank putting forward their project proposals. Most of the projects got the go ahead. In the afternoon we had the same process but involving the other 4 areas, which were Braithwaite, Highfield, Eastwood and Stockbridge. Iin total, we had about 300 residents taking part in the event that day.
